Toronto offers plenty of affordable activities to enjoy on a night out. Although sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. Here are six inexpensive things you can do for a fun date night/day out. 6 cheap dates if you want to say it out loud.
Stroll Through Graffiti Alley: Explore one of Toronto’s most vibrant and free attractions. Graffiti Alley, located in the Queen Street West area, features an ever-changing collection of colorful street art. It's a great place for a casual walk, photos, and taking in the local art scene, all without spending a dime.
Photo from Government of Ontario Catch a Movie at a Discount Theatre: Toronto has a few discount movie theatres, such as Imagine Cinemas or The Fox Theatre, where you can watch classic or indie films at a lower price than the big chain cinemas. They even play some larger new releases. Check their schedules for special cheap nights or discounted showings. These theatres are interesting venues and a much different experience than their Cineplex counterparts. More old-school.
Visit Kensington Market: Kensington Market is a quirky neighborhood with a mix of vintage stores, cool cafes, and eclectic boutiques. And now a National Heritage Site. While the shops might not all be cheap, you can still explore the area, pop into the shops, grab a cheap coffee, or simply enjoy the unique atmosphere and people-watch. It’s a unique part of Toronto that makes you feel like.. While sort of like you’re not in Toronto.
Photo from Parks Canada Take a Night Walk Along Harbourfront: Head down to Toronto’s waterfront and take a stroll along the Harbourfront. The lakefront view is stunning, especially at night with the city lights reflecting off the water. You can also enjoy free events or live music that sometimes takes place along the boardwalk. It’s a lovely stroll that doesn’t have to cost much at all. (I’d recommend this one more in the summer… but you do you.
Explore the Distillery District: The Distillery District offers cobblestone streets, galleries, boutique shops, and historic architecture. It’s free to wander around and soak in the atmosphere. Many evenings, you can enjoy free outdoor events, especially during the warmer months, or take in the seasonal light displays. It's famous for it's Christmas market, but features outdoor fares year round.
Photo from the Distillery District website Attend an Open Mic: Toronto has a vibrant arts and music scene, and there are always free events happening, including open mics, poetry readings, or music performances. Venues like The Drake Hotel, The Horseshoe Tavern and Firkin pubs all host free or very affordable events, where you can enjoy local musical talent without breaking the bank. The Comedy Bar and Yuk-yuks have open mic comedy nights. Covers are often lowered or removed completely for these nights. The entertainment can be… varied... But it’s still fun.'
